how life has been till date ...

What is it like when you get your ligament injured???

Okie, so here I am explaining how life has been till date after an accident that I had...

It was evening time, around 7:30 PM; I was getting back from my college.
It was as any other day of my life, but who knows what will happen the very next split second.
The driver took a right turn with I guess more than usual speed, and a truck was coming from the left side....... within seconds.. It collided with the Scorpio.. Left door... I was thrown on the right side.
Nobody got hurt. It was sheer luck that we all were in a Scorpio, any other car something like a Maruti would have definitely turned over. But I wasn’t the lucky nobody in the cab…
So, everybody was asking me if I was hurt??
At that instant, I guess due to an excitement that I have met with an accident, I didn't feel much pain.
I came out when the car dropped me at my stoppage and i tried to come out but the left door didn’t move. It was jammed due to the collision... :). I came out struggling from the right door. After that I gave a few sharp jerks to my knee.

I came back and told everyone that I have met with an accident. Apart from that I also said that it’s not much and may be after a few days I will get to know what the extent of the injury is.

I continued with my life as usual, but my right leg was having pain and that also an extended line pain.

So I was walking kind of like a handicapped.

Then after 3 days I went to consult a doctor thinking that there might be a hairline fracture or any other internal injury.

X-ray was done, nothing in the name of fracture. But looking at the amount of swelling in my leg I was straight away given 5 days bed rest. Who the hell was going to stop me from doing my work?

The 5th I walked and the same day I had appointment with my doctor. I did what I could and went to the doctor. He suggested going for an MRI Scan. Ok so some costly stuff … in my brain I was thinking that this doctor just wants to make money. I was shouting that nothing has happened to me. But the fact was I was troubled whenever I walked.

Then on 8th February I got the MRI done.

Next day the report came, initially I didn’t get the final report page. I just saw the X-ray sheets.

In the evening while going to the doctor I saw the report and there it was clearly written – Partial tear/ sprain in anterior cruciate ligament along with edema.

That was pathetic to me. But still I was not serious because I had less idea about ligament injuries before I actually suffered one.

The doctor recommended a plaster for three weeks….

Life has been tough since that day..Though I didn’t go for plaster but I have read a lot about ligament injuries and ACL tear is the worst of its kind when it comes to knee injuries.

Another doctor suggested bed rest along with physio therapy.

I had to miss my internals; I am an MBA student…!!!

SO the story is I can’t even walk to get a glass of water for myself. I just get up and use a stick to go to the washroom and rest of the times I am motionless…

But in the meanwhile I would say …

I took everything lightly before finally reading about it on Wikipedia.

ACL is responsible for 90% of the knee stability. A torn ACL can further rupture the meniscus, patella and many other things and in the long run the ACL tear leads to Arthritis and may add to other forms of infection inside the knee.

In case of complete tear of any of the ligaments Surgery is the only option. And which is done properly across many hospitals, but the rehabilitation process takes a long time.

Apart from this pathetic condition I have few questions:

Why I was the only one to get injured and that also a serious one which might lead to a surgery if my knee is not stable?

Some one should have told me the seriousness of ligament injuries, I guess I would have prevented myself from walking and taken care of myself.

There are people from whom you expect they will help you and they never do so but then there are people whom you never expected and still you find them standing always for you in any situation.

It’s difficult for a workaholic to sit back at home like this without work - being out of action.

And in the meanwhile the most irritating part was people calling me up for the syllabus and not even bothering once to ask me how am I? DISGUSTING!

Many more things are bothering me I guess I can’t pen down all of them.

But it is an advice for everyone those who meet an accident that when it comes to your knees please get it checked in the early stages itself else you will have to take rest like me..!!

And trust me its real bad..the pain is more than before… And ALWAYS CONSULT A VERY GOOD DOCTOR IN CASE OF KNEE INJURIES ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE STAYING IN DELHI!
